I see a lot of talk about being a “popular” writer and… I don’t know if it’s what everyone aspires to, but… I don’t? All I honestly want is a few readers that comment on my works so that I don’t feel like I’m throwing words into the void. I don’t want to be a BNF, I don’t want to write a “fandom classic” that everyone recs. It’d be a nice plus, yeah, but what I really crave when I get involved with a fandom via fanfiction is some sense of community.
I feel you, anon. I love what I always get out of writing fanfic—discussion and interaction with like-minded people, confidence in my writing ability, and I’ve made lots of friends, some of whom I still talk to on a daily basis years later.
That said, I think we all try to get something different out of writing fanfic and being a part of fandom. Whatever your aims or goals, you are valid and I, personally, hope you meet all your milestones.
Keep writing and you’ll get there. Good luck.

I know y’all see like 5000 of these posts a day on your dash; but if you’re of legal voting age and a citizen please, please vote in this election.
I know that it’s disheartening to vote in the presidential election if your vote counts for less towards the electoral college because you don’t live in a swing state; but if you don’t live in one of those states (I don’t, myself) local/state elections are where you can really make a difference.
Also, the elections for the State Supreme Court justices matter and matter a lot– they should be researched as much as the the candidates for Senate. I found out one of the candidates for on the ballot was a conspiracy theorist after some research (!) so yeah; it absolutely does matter.

there’s going to be a difference sometimes between the stories that you find masterfully crafted and the stories that mean a lot to you personally and those two things don’t have to overlap completely or even at all to make that story worthwhile
and that’s a good thing to remember as a reader/viewer/etc but also as a writer because even if whatever you ultimately write is full of mistakes, someone out there is gonna take it so to heart that it fundamentally changes them as a person. and that is. Huge.
Like! I made a list of the top ten stories that have influenced me as a human being and only 2 or maybe 3 of them are things I would hold up as examples of narrative mastery. But I cannot imagine who I would be without the other 7!!
Please write your story and share it with the world! Someday someone will not be able to imagine a world without your story in it and they’ll be so grateful you brought that wonderful, meaningful thing into their life
Also while I’m on a roll, a story doesn’t have to have some deep hidden meaning or philosophical theme for it to be meaningful. Sometimes a story is meaningful to someone because it was fun and made them happy at a time when they really, really needed that. Or because it was an incredibly intriguing world that inspired them to dream. Maybe they’re another writer, and they see in that thing you wrote the exact kind of story they want to tell someday.
There are many ways to be meaningful
(this is not a specific vague, because i’ve seen a few people do this)–
honestly, what is with this idea that the fictional anne boleyn in tudors is somehow a ‘sanitized’ version of anne? that it makes her out to be a total saint?
it’s one of the better ones imo; but i have a lot of issues with it (maybe i’ll list them at some point) regardless of that and it is definitely not a sanitized version so like…what’s with all the attitude?
‘that’s not the REAL anne boleyn’ (well of course it’s not, it’s a fictional character based on a historic figure) and ‘newsflash nat dormer isn’t anne boleyn’ (thank you…i’m aware) and the general ‘wake up, sheeple’ attitude i’m seeing regarding this is bizarre.
