Whenever I’ve been with someone who concerns themselves with mocking a romance novel (despite never having read one), they inevitably take the book and open it to somewhere in the middle, then flip pages until they find a sex scene to read out loud and make fun of. I’d love to get these people to start from page one and read dozens of scenes of character and plot development before they get to the first sex scene, which is how it works in most non-erotic romance, but I know they’d refuse to put the time in, as doing so would get in the way of reinforcing their facile “mommy porn” stereotype.

Btw, have you ever had the experience of being with one of these people when they’re so overconfident that whatever in the book is going to be terrible that they open the book randomly and immediately launch into an oration in The Voice We Use to Mock, except they end up reading a description of, like, a character discussing how their childhood was lonely? That’s fun.

Not that they ever let that stop them, they just quit reading and keep flipping until they find the sex.

Women??? Having fulfilling romantic relationships and satisfying sex with men they adore and who adore them???? That’s so HILARIOUS right? So pathetic and sad and funny lol??

Yeah people like this are The Worst and honestly when they do this they are telling you something very important about themselves.

The problem is that it’s all FICTION. Unfortunately romance novels lead some women to believe that men are capable of a fulfilling romantic relationship with great sex. Most men are severely lacking in both of these areas and thinking romance novels are based even vaguely in reality will make for a grossly disappointed woman. Ladies, don’t forget that most men are incompetent at sex and suck at intimacy. Don’t set yourself up for heartbreak and disappointment (as I have *many* times.) Pro tip: vibrators are awesome and dating women is much more fulfilling 👍

Oh, fuck off.
