going to go out on a limb and say…that saying if one disregards chapuys they have to disregard the spanish ambassadors re: h7 is…erroneous because it’s not really equitable.
firstable, i don’t totally disregard chapuys as an ambassador. i do not wholly trust him re: anne boleyn, and that’s very reasonable imo, as he seemed to have something of a vendetta against her.
it’s also not about disregarding everything he said about anne, but knowing it slants to the negative. this is especially important re: her legal innocence.
like, look, i’m sure the spanish ambassadors that reported on h7 were around as fallible and around as biased as, y’know, anyone is– but they were not anywhere near as pointedly and specifically biased against h7 [as chapuys was towards anne]. show me where they’re calling him a whore or a usurper in their dispatches and i’ll distrust them in regards to h7 and much as i distrust chapuys in regards to anne…but it’s not the case.
