Hmm, disagree in that they’re identical for Anne. Worsley’s and Gregory’s and Mantel’s Annes are equally vindictive; but Gregory really focuses on discrediting her character vis á vis promiscuity. I still think Tudors’ was the best among all tv shows and movies about them; it did fall into some tropes but it was still more nuanced than AOTD, Man for All Seasons, Wolf Hall, and definitely more so with Gregory’s stuff.
I do agree that if they’re going to do another tv series (and I actually think it has to be a series; there’s not enough time to explore all the nuances of an era in a meaningful way in a movie– a mini-series at the very least), that they need to explore new angles and stop recycling the same tropes. It would have to be fresh.
And the usage of tropes is why I can’t deal with a lot of Tudor novels, honestly, so yeah– it’s often so bad and always bad and moreover bad in exactly the same ways as other ones.
