Was probably very sexy… also a bit problematic, of course.

Enjoyed pissing people off, but usually not without a good reason (like with Charles V) so… can relate on both counts.

Field of the C of Gold can honestly best be summed up as typical Virgo vs. Cancer antics.

(I love the idea of a Marguerite as Henry’s queen consort so much because imagining the FOCOG with her being there as both sister and wife being like ‘you are both so stupid. honestly how are either of you still alive’ is 👌)

To sum up, we stan a big-nosed, ostentatious Virgo king.

general thoughts on henry viii?

There’s this misconception that the COE was not an accomplishment because he didn’t establish it for 100% selfless reasons, and also he was basically still pretty Catholic.

For starters… the definition of achievement is not “Something that was accomplished for 100% selfless reasons ”.

I think part of this misconception comes from the idea that anyone could have done this so it’s nbd.

And like, sure, on the face of it yeah, any monarch could have said “I am reversing 1000 years of established religion with a new thing, I am supreme head of the church, boo-fuckin’-yah.”

But the idea that any monarch could have done this and continue to keep their throne for the rest of their life…for 15 years? The idea that any monarch could’ve done this and overall kept the loyalty of their subjects (they didn’t even protest when he raised taxes for an invasion of France, years later, he was lauded for winning Calais) afterwards? The idea that, beyond declaring it, this sort of thing just happens, the idea that he could’ve done this if he hadn’t garnered the necessary support… the idea that he could’ve done this AND maintained/kept his supremacy if he was a widely unpopular king when he declared himself to be this, the idea that he could’ve done this with zero effort, solely relying on advisers to do everything for him while he just like…ONLY hunted and drank and played cards (for 20 years straight, under Wolsey and years later under Cromwell, according to some) is …….

Obviously just a very weak attempt/argument to discredit him. And it’s very transparently always presented by those that say he’s ‘overrated’, even though you can totally hate him while also acknowledging his importance in history.

since you mentioned madeleine being offered to marry henry in 1536 (when she was 16 jc), how do you think that would’ve worked out?

Henry said 16 was too young for him (Christina of Denmark was 16 when Holbein drew her portrait for Henry in 1538, had she agreed the wedding probably would’ve taken place when she was 17…I know many are disgusted by this, but her former spouse was only three years younger than Henry so it wasn’t terribly unusual, also since she was a widow it wasn’t considered to be) so I don’t think it would’ve, honestly…unless she outlived her IRL age and was suggested as a match, later.

What’s your opinion on a living Henry, Duke of Cornwall, ending up with Anne Boleyn? I think I read it in that fanfic where every chapter was a different what if, and the idea of Anne as Henry and CoA’s daughter-in-law is just so funny to me that I just keep thinking about it.

It doesn’t interest me personally, but I don’t begrudge anyone their fanfic ideas. I’d actually be more interested in the idea of Fitzroy surviving and marrying AOC, I have that in an AU timeline I’m working on rn.

I don’t think he liked Anne that much… so probably not great with Elizabeth? But maybe it wouldn’t matter; Mary never cared much for Anne either and yet…

With Edward it probably would’ve been better, if only for the sake of self-preservation… He was who everyone expected to be the long lasting monarch, not Elizabeth, so…

Big age differences with both, which is always an interesting dynamic.

It’d probably have a lot to do with his own religious inclinations, which are not well-documented, other than that he accepted his father’s supremacy where Mary hadn’t. So it’s a toss-up, tbh.

Had Prince Henry lived to adulthood, how do you think it would’ve affected Henry VIII’s reign?

I mean, there would definitely be no CoE… Otherwise I don’t think it would have impacted his reign so much as his legacy? He would have still built up the Navy etc. He would be Prince of Wales, so Mary would never have a household there, but maybe she would’ve secured a marriage with another country more easily if a match was made with her brother and another royal of that country as well.

I mean, he would’ve definitely married after COA died… ‘who’ is the question; irl François I offered him his daughter Madeleine’s hand in marriage in 1536.
